Coronavirus and The Mount Salon

The coronavirus has spread to nearly every country in the world since it first emerged from China at the beginning of 2020. Since then, millions have been affected and there have been over 146,000 deaths. The health cost has been staggering and our hearts go out to those who have been affected by this terrible disease. It has been so inspiring to see the human stories that have emerged, from Clapping for Carers, to the amazing fundraising efforts of Captain Tom. In Somerset, many volunteers have been hard at work helping the most vulnerable members of our community.

Businesses have been massively affected by the coronavirus and UK lockdown, and The Mount Salon is no exception. The health and safety of our guests and our team has always been one of our top priorities, and this is especially true now. We followed government advice to the letter – handwashing between clients and deep-cleaning the salon, stations and chairs as much as possible.

We closed the door to The Mount on 23rd March and we do not know when we will reopen, or how things will look when we do. Will we need to wear masks and gloves?  Will we have to continue distancing our team members from one another? Will we be one of the first or last businesses to reopen? During these uncertain times nobody knows, but we are planning as best we can how we operate in the future. 

In countries where restrictions are already being lifted such as Spain and Switzerland, hair and beauty salons have been allowed to open, along with other close contact industries such as chiropractors and physiotherapists. There is no doubt about the mental health boost of a great hair cut! However, of course, we will be following government guidelines about when to reopen.

Our team will swear that the whole experience of visiting the salon should lift your mood. We have missed seeing and laughing with the many guests who have become friends, and we have been staggered by the lovely messages of support we have received from our guests saying they are missing us as well. Thank you.

Although our doors are closed, we have been keeping the lines of communication open. Our phone lines have been diverted to Carly at home and our online booking system, website and social media are all kept up to date with the latest developments.

The Mount team are in constant contact. Like many of you, we have found that the break has given us a chance to recharge from our own hectic lives, spend time with our families and boost creativity levels. We are embracing our natural hair colours and taking this opportunity to keep our hair in top condition through re-conditioning treatments such as the intense MoroccanOil masks or at-home Olaplex treatments. It must be said however, that we too are dreaming of our next salon experience! Rest assured, we will return to The Mount refreshed and raring to go.

As the pandemic continues to evolve, we will keep in touch and follow all the relevant advice. Until then, we hope that you and your family stay safe and well – we cannot wait to see you, just don’t look too closely at our roots!
